It is no longer news that one of the leading governorship aspirants, of the All Progressives Grand Alliance, APGA in Anambra State, Nze Akachukwu Sullivan Nwankpo has thrown his support behind Governor Obiano’s dictates at tomorrows primary election which will be held in Awka, the state capital.
What is news now, is the real reason, the former aide to former President Goodluck Jonathan, made the decision. Thebladengr.com, gathered Monday night, that although Nwankpo’s appeal was yet to be heard, the Okija-born politician decided that the party must go into the November 6 election, with an undivided house.
In a telephone chat Monday, his Director General, Media/Publicity & Strategy Dr. Harris Chuma-Odili,informed that Nwankpo’s decision “is the ultimate sacrifice of a loyal party man. Recall that his mantra is ‘APGA Forever’, he believes in his party, he has been working for his party, so he can’t be seen as the one rocking the boat at this crucial time.”
According to Odili, “The Leader of the party and BOT Chairman is Gov. Obiano and to keep the party as one, it is not in Nwankpo’s character to go against the leader at this time.”
When Dr. Odili was asked if the latest move does not negate Nze Nwankpo’s Appeal and if indeed his campaign team was in support of his decision, Odili said: “the aspirants who went on Appeal believe they have good cases and that justice will be served. Take for instance the case of Nze Akachukwu Nwankpo, the reasons given for his disqualification are laughable, it looked like a situation where the party was clearing the road for a particular candidate. But as for us in Nze Nwankpo’s campaign team, we are fully in support of the steps our Principal has taken. He is a shinning example of what a true party man should be. We are respecting his decision while looking forward to the days ahead,” he said.
